Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa, heaping
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • Cocoa Frosting
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • hot water (enough to moisten sugar)
  • 2 2/3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 teaspoons cocoa, heaping

Method

  • Melt cocoa and butter.
  • Put soda in buttermilk.
  • Mix dry ingredients first and add cocoa last.
  • Bake in a greased and floured 8 in.
  • pan for 25 min at 350F degrees.

  • Mix sugar and water.
  • Add softened butter and cocoa.
  • Beat until creamy.
  • Add 1 tsp vanilla.
  • Stir until smooth and ice cake.
