Ingredients

  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 c. water
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. cold water
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. salt

Method

  • In a large saucepan, put raisins and 1 cup water.
  • Bring to a boil, turn down heat and simmer 15 minutes.
  • Add shortening, let melt.
  • Add 1/2 cup cold water, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, salt and baking soda.
  • Mix well.
  • Add flour; mix well.
  • Put in lightly greased and floured square pan.
  • Bake at 375° for 30 to 40 minutes until done.
