Ingredients

  • 1/2 stick butter or margarine
  • 1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 (8 oz.) pkg. dates, chopped
  • 1 c. chopped walnuts

Method

  • Cream butter and sugar.
  • Add egg; beat well.
  • Combine flour, salt and baking powder; add to creamed mixture.
  • Add vanilla; beat well.
  • Stir in dates and nuts well.
  • Spoon batter into a greased 8-inch cake pan and bake at 350° for 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Cool, then cut into bars.
  • Yields about 16 bars.
