- Melt the butter in the small saucepan over low heat.
- Put the melted butter, cream and vanilla into the medium mixing bowl.
- Mix with the wooden spoon.
- With the electric mixer, beat in the icing sugar, a little at a time.
- Continue beating until the frosting is thick and creamy - about 5 minutes.
- With the metal spatula, spread about 1/3 of the frosting between the two layers.
- Use the rest to cover the top and the sides of your cake.
- If you rinse the metal spatula under hot water from time to time while you are frosting the cake, the frosting will be much easier to spread.
