Ingredients
- 4 or 5 large white onions, peeled
- butter
- salt and pepper
- 1/2 pt. light cream
- 1/2 pt. heavy cream
- Italian bread crumbs
Method
- Slice enough onions in 1/4-inch slices to fill a medium size greased casserole.
- Layer onion slices in casserole.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste and dot generously with butter.
- Pour heavy cream and light cream over top of onions but do not cover. Cover with generous layer of Italian bread crumbs.
- (This can be made a day ahead, up to this point.)
- Place casserole on baking sheet and bake in 300° oven for 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
- Onion-lovers will want seconds!
