Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 pound butter (1 cube) - (softened for 1 hour)
  • 1-cup whole wheat flour
  • 5 pounds apples (granny smith or pippin)
  • Cinnamon

Method

  • 1) To make the crumble topping, mix together butter, flour and brown sugar. You can use a fork - or your fingers.
  • 2) Wash, peel and slice apples (not too thick). Can slice in Cuisinart.
  • 3) Spread apples in an 8x11 rectangular Pyrex. Make sure they are piled pretty high because they shrink. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
  • 4) Crumble the topping over the apples.
  • 5) Bake at 325 for 1 hour or until apples are nice and soft. If not cooking fast enough raise to 350.
  • 6) Serve warm or at room temperature. If it's too hot, you can't taste the apples.
