Ingredients

  • 2 lb. beef for stew
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 2 Tbsp. Crisco oil
  • 1 (4 1/2 oz.) jar whole mushrooms
  • 2 c. Cheddar cheese, grated
  • 4 medium potatoes, sliced
  • 1 can mushroom soup
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 3/4 c. sour cream
  • cracker crumbs

Method

  • Season meat and brown in oil with onions.
  • Drain mushrooms and add enough water to make 1 cup.
  • Stir liquid into meat.
  • Simmer until tender.
  • Put meat mixture in 9 x 13-inch pan.
  • Arrange potatoes on meat.
  • Mix soup, milk and sour cream.
  • Pour over potatoes.
  • Sprinkle with cheese.
