Ingredients
- 1 1/2 c. flour
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 2/3 c. orange juice
- 3/4 c. powdered sugar
- 1/4 c. cocoa
- 3/4 c. + 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 2 eggs, slightly beaten
- 1 tsp. grated orange peel
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts
- 3 Tbsp. melted butter
Method
- Combine
- flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in mixing bowl. Cut
- in
- shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse
- crumbs.
- Add
- eggs,
- orange juice and peel; stir
- just until blended.
- Set batter aside.
- Combine powdered sugar, nuts and cocoa in a small bowl. Stir in melted butter to
- form a crumb
- mixture.
- Spread
- 3/4
- cup reserved batter evenly on bottom
- of a greased 8-inch pan.
- Sprinkle half of crumb
- mixture over
- batter.
- Spread
- with one cup batter and sprinkle
- with remaining crumb mixture.
- Cover with remaining batter.
- Bake
- at 350°
- for
- 35
- to
- 40 minutes or until cake tester inserted
- in center
- comes out clean.
- Cool slightly; spread with Orange Glaze. serve warm.
