Ingredients
- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 2 c. milk, scalded
- 1/3 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 5 3/4 to 6 1/4 c. sifted flour
Method
- Soften dry yeast in warm water (110°).
- Combine hot milk, sugar, salt and shortening.
- Cool to lukewarm.
- Stir in 2 cups flour; beat well. Add softened yeast; mix.
- Add enough remaining flour to make moderately stiff dough. Turn out on lightly floured surface.
- Knead about 5 minutes. Shape in ball and place in lightly greased bowl, turning once. Cover and let rise in warm place (about 1 1/4 hours).
- Punch down.
