Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. cinnamon

Method

  • Cream shortening, brown sugar and sugar until fluffy.
  • Beat in eggs and vanilla.
  • Sift together flour, salt, soda and baking powder.
  • Add alternately with buttermilk.
  • Combine brown sugar and cinnamon.
  • Pour half the batter into prepared loaf pan.
  • Sprinkel with 2/3 of the brown sugar mixture.
  • Add remaining batter. Sprinkle with the remaining brown sugar mixture.
  • Swirl with knife.
  • Bake at 350° for 40 to 50 minutes or until bread tests done.
