Ingredients

  • 1 cup vegetable shortening softened
  • 2 cups brown sugar firmly packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cup flour, all-purpose sifted
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups rolled oats quaker oats, uncooked (quick or old-fashioned)
  • 1 x milk chocolate bars
  • 1 x pecan halves

Method

  • Beat shortening and sugar together until creamy.
  • Blend in eggs and vanilla.
  • Sift together flour, soda and salt.
  • Add to creamed mixture; blend well.
  • Stir in oats.
  • Chill dough several hours or overnight.
  • Shape to form 1-inch balls.
  • Place on ungreased cookie sheets, about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake in preheated moderate oven (375 F) 10 to 12 minutes.
  • Immediately place a small square of milk chocolate bar on each.
  • Remove cookies from cookie sheets; press pecan half into chocolate.
