Ingredients

  • 2 c. milk
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 heaping Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1/4 c. cornstarch or 1/3 c. flour
  • 1 deep dish pie shell, baked
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Blend milk, sugar, cornstarch and cocoa.
  • Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture thickens and begins to boil.
  • Remove from heat and add a little hot mixture to beaten egg yolks, then add to main mixture.
  • Return to heat and cook 1 minute longer.
  • Add butter and vanilla.
  • Pour into pie shell and cover with meringue.
  • Bake at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes.
