Ingredients
- 12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 30 vanilla caramels
- 3 Tbsp. butter
- 1 c. coarsely chopped peanuts
Method
- Melt 1 cup chocolate chips with 1 tablespoon shortening in double boiler over hot water; blend well.
- Spread in foil-lined 8-inch square dish.
- Chill until firm.
- Melt caramels with butter and 2 tablespoons water in double boiler over hot water.
- Stir in peanuts.
- Spread over chocolate layer.
- Chill for 15 minutes or until partially set.
- Melt remaining 1 cup chocolate and 1 tablespoon shortening in double boiler over hot water.
- Spread over caramel layer.
- Chill until firm.
- Cut into 1 x 2-inch bars. Store, covered, in refrigerator.
- Yield: 1 1/2 pounds.
