Ingredients
- 3/4 c. cocoa
- 1 1/3 c. sugar
- 1 1/4 c. scalded milk
- 2/3 c. shortening
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 3 eggs, unbeaten
- 1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 2 c. sifted flour
Method
- Sift cocoa with 1/3 cup sugar.
- Add scalded milk gradually and stir until smooth.
- Cool.
- Combine shortening, salt and vanilla. Add 1 cup sugar gradually and cream thoroughly.
- Add eggs, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition.
- Add soda to flour and sift three times.
- Add flour to creamed mixture, mixing after each addition until smooth.
- Pour into two 9-inch layer pans that have been greased and floured.
- Bake at 350° for 25 minutes.
