Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 (28 oz.) can whole tomatoes
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 beef bouillon cube
  • 1 (16 oz.) can red kidney beans
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp. oregano
  • 1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper or to taste
  • Premium saltine crackers
  • 2 medium onions, sliced
  • 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
  • 2 Tbsp. diced green pepper
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. chili powder
  • 1 bay leaf

Method

  • Combine beef and onions in a Dutch oven or large saucepan; brown meat.
  • Drain off fat.
  • Add other ingredients; stir to blend. Cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove bay leaf.
  • Serve with crackers.
  • Makes six 1 1/3-cup servings.
