- 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
- 1 (28 oz.) can whole tomatoes
- 1 c. water
- 1 beef bouillon cube
- 1 (16 oz.) can red kidney beans
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tsp. oregano
- 1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper or to taste
- Premium saltine crackers
- 2 medium onions, sliced
- 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
- 2 Tbsp. diced green pepper
- 2 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. chili powder
- 1 bay leaf
Method
- Combine beef and onions in a Dutch oven or large saucepan; brown meat.
- Drain off fat.
- Add other ingredients; stir to blend. Cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Remove bay leaf.
- Serve with crackers.
- Makes six 1 1/3-cup servings.
