Ingredients

  • 1 medium chicken
  • black pepper
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 1/2 c. self-rising flour
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 5 or 6 bouillon cubes
  • enough warm water to form firm dough

Method

  • Boil chicken in large pan.
  • Boil until tender, making sure to keep plenty of water above chicken.
  • Once tender, remove chicken and debone; remove unwanted skin.
  • Breaking into small pieces, add back to broth.
  • After bringing back to a boil, turn to medium heat.
  • While chicken is boiling, add bouillon cubes.
  • Salt and pepper to taste.
  • Now add dumpling slices to broth slowly, allowing the dumplings to cook in the hot broth.
