Ingredients
- 8 slices rye or white bread
- 2 medium onions, sliced
- 8 slices American cheese
- 1 tsp. salt
- dash of cayenne pepper
- dash of paprika
- 1 Tbsp. chopped parsley
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 2 c. hot milk
Method
- Arrange alternate layers of bread, onion and cheese in shallow 2-quart baking dish, ending with cheese layer.
- Combine remaining ingredients and pour over top.
- Set in shallow pan of water and bake for 25 minutes until bread is puffy and custard is set. Serves 4.
