Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c. self-rising flour
  • 1/4 c. vegetable shortening
  • 3/4 c. grated Cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 c. chopped fresh chives
  • 1 c. milk

Method

  • Mix flour and shortening until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Add milk, grated cheese and chives and work in extra flour until dough pulls from sides of bowl.
  • Roll out to 1/2-inch thick and cut with floured cutter.
  • Brush tops with melted butter.
  • Bake until golden brown at 425°, about 12 minutes.
