Ingredients

  • 2 packages microwave popcorn, popped
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 12 cup margarine
  • 12 cup white corn syrup
  • 12 teaspoon salt
  • 12 teaspoon baking soda

Method

  • Pop popcorn in microwave.
  • Place popped popcorn into a large brown paper bag.
  • **Make sure you separate all unpopped kernels from popcorn before putting in bag.
  • You don't want to bite down on unpopped kernels** Set aside the bag.
  • In a deep glass bowl, combine brown sugar, margarine, corn syrup and salt.
  • Microwave this mixture on high until it starts to bubble.
  • Stir and continue to cook on high for 2 minutes.
  • Add baking soda to brown sugar mixture and stir until it becomes frothy.
  • Carefully pour syrup mixture over the popped popcorn in bag and shake to coat.
  • (Mix is very hot).
  • Fold down bag and microwave on high for 1-1/2 minutes.
  • Remove bag, shake to coat.
  • Fold down bag and microwave again on high for 1-1/2 minutes.
  • Remove bag, shake to coat.
  • Fold down bag and microwave one last time for 30 seconds.
  • Shake to distribute caramel and break apart.
  • I put this into an airtight container, but continue to break apart until cooled.
