Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 c. Sugar
  • 1 c. Cornstarch
  • 2 tsp Grnd cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp Gound nutmeg
  • 3 Tbsp. Lemon juice
  • 2 x To 3 drops yellow food color
  • 6 lb Tart apples Peel/core/slice

Method

  • Here is a great recipe for you home canners out there.It's apple pie filling for a two crust pie.
  • In sauce pan blend first 4 ingredients and 1 tsp salt.
  • Stir 10 c. water cook and stir until thick and bubbly.
  • add in lemon juice and food coloring.
  • Pack into warm sterilized qt jars leaving 1" headspace.
  • Fill jars with syrup leaving 1/2 inch headspace.
  • Use spatula to help distribute syrup.
  • Adjust lids.
  • Process in water bath for 20 minutes.
  • Makes 6 qts; each qt is sufficient for 1 pie.
