Ingredients
- 4 1/2 c. Sugar
- 1 c. Cornstarch
- 2 tsp Grnd cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp Gound nutmeg
- 3 Tbsp. Lemon juice
- 2 x To 3 drops yellow food color
- 6 lb Tart apples Peel/core/slice
Method
- Here is a great recipe for you home canners out there.It's apple pie filling for a two crust pie.
- In sauce pan blend first 4 ingredients and 1 tsp salt.
- Stir 10 c. water cook and stir until thick and bubbly.
- add in lemon juice and food coloring.
- Pack into warm sterilized qt jars leaving 1" headspace.
- Fill jars with syrup leaving 1/2 inch headspace.
- Use spatula to help distribute syrup.
- Adjust lids.
- Process in water bath for 20 minutes.
- Makes 6 qts; each qt is sufficient for 1 pie.
