Ingredients

  • 2 lb. ground meat (extra lean)
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1/2 c. celery, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 can tomatoes, mashed
  • 1 can kidney beans with liquid
  • 1 can chili beans with liquid
  • 3 to 4 c. shredded cabbage
  • salt and pepper to taste

Method

  • Put meat, onion, pepper and celery in Dutch oven and steam covered over medium heat until meat turns white, breaking up meat with fork as you stir occasionally.
  • Add tomatoes, beans, salt and pepper.
  • Bring to boil; add cabbage, pushing cabbage just under liquid.
  • Cover and simmer 20 to 30 minutes; adjust seasonings. Freezes well.
