Ingredients

  • 1 13 cups all-purpose flour
  • 23 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 12 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 23 cup milk
  • 14 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 14 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350; spray 9-inch round metal cake pan with nonstick baking spray with flour.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
  • Add egg, milk, butter, and vanilla to flour mixture.
  • Using an electric mixer on med-low speed, beat for 1 minute, until blended.
  • Scrape sides down and bottom of bowl with a spatula.
  • Beat on medium speed for 1 minute.
  • Spread batter evenly in prepared pan.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs attached.
  • Let cool in pan on a wire rack for 10 minutes, then invert cake onto rack to cool completely.
  • Icing-in a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, butter, milk, and vanilla until blended and smooth; use immediately.
  • Spread icing over top of cooled cake.
