Ingredients
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar packed
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup butter
- 3 cups peanuts
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
Method
- Butter 2 (15 x 10 x 2 inch) pans and set aside.
- In heavy 3-quart saucepan combine the sugars, corn syrup, water and salt.
- Cook and stir until the sugars dissolve.
- Continue to cook until the mixture boils; stir in butter and clip candy thermometer to the side of the pan.
- Continue cooking, without stirring, to 250 degrees or thread stage.
- Stir in peanuts and cook, stirring constantly, to 300 degrees or hard crack stage.
- Remove pan from heat and stir in the soda, QUICKLY.
- Pour onto the buttered pans and spread
