Ingredients

  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 c. Crisco
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 c. blackberry jam or preserves (with seeds)
  • 1 c. buttermilk

Method

  • Sift together cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, cloves, baking soda, salt and flour and set aside.
  • Cream together Crisco, sugar and eggs.
  • Add jam or preserves (with seeds).
  • Alternate sifted ingredients and buttermilk with the Crisco, sugar and egg mixture and mix well.
  • Bake at 350° for 35 minutes or until cake pulls from the side of the greased and floured cake pan.
  • Frost with Caramel Icing.
