- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. allspice
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 c. Crisco
- 2 c. sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 c. blackberry jam or preserves (with seeds)
- 1 c. buttermilk
Method
- Sift together cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, cloves, baking soda, salt and flour and set aside.
- Cream together Crisco, sugar and eggs.
- Add jam or preserves (with seeds).
- Alternate sifted ingredients and buttermilk with the Crisco, sugar and egg mixture and mix well.
- Bake at 350° for 35 minutes or until cake pulls from the side of the greased and floured cake pan.
- Frost with Caramel Icing.
