Ingredients

  • 1/3 c. shortening
  • 2 c. plain flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2/3 c. milk

Method

  • Heat oven to 450°.
  • Combine flour, baking powder and salt.
  • Cut shortening into mixture until it is fine crumbs.
  • Stir in just enough milk so dough leaves side of bowl; round up into ball.
  • Turn dough onto lightly floured surface.
  • Knead lightly 10 times.
  • Roll or pat dough 1/2-inch thick.
  • Cut with floured 2-inch biscuit cutter.
  • Place on ungreased cookie sheet about 1-inch apart for crusty sides.
  • Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Makes about 16 biscuits.
