Ingredients

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. chopped dates
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 c. nuts

Method

  • Blend shortening and sugar until creamy.
  • Beat in eggs.
  • Mix baking soda in water, stir into creamed mixture.
  • Add vanilla and flour, mix well.
  • Fold in dates, raisins and nuts.
  • Drop by spoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets.
  • Bake in preheated oven at 400° for about 10 minutes, or until light brown.
  • These stay moist and chewy.
