Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. round steak
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1/3 c. Parmesan cheese
  • 1/3 c. fine dry bread crumbs
  • 1 medium onion, minced
  • 1/2 lb. Mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. oregano
  • 1/2 tsp. marjoram
  • 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
  • 2 c. hot water

Method

  • Cut steak into serving pieces and pound to 1/4-inch thick.
  • Dip in egg and roll in mixture of Parmesan cheese and bread crumbs. Brown steak in oil, then place in baking dish.
  • Cook onion in same skillet until tender.
  • Stir in salt, pepper, sugar, oregano, marjoram and tomato paste.
  • Add hot water.
  • Cook 5 minutes.
  • Pour most of sauce over steak.
  • Top with slices of Mozzarella cheese, then rest of sauce.
  • Cover and bake at 350° for 1 hour or until tender.
  • Add water if needed.
  • Serve over noodles, spaghetti or rice.
