Ingredients

  • 1 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 c. margarine
  • 1/2 c. firmly packed dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. dark corn syrup
  • 2 large egg whites
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/4 c. miniature chocolate chips
  • 2 Tbsp. finely chopped pecans

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Lightly coat 8-inch square baking pan with vegetable cooking spray.
  • Combine flour, baking powder and salt in bowl.
  • Beat margarine, sugar and corn syrup in mixer bowl at medium speed.
  • Beat in egg whites and vanilla until well blended.
  • At low speed, gradually add dry ingredients until just combined.
  • Stir in chocolate chips.
  • Spread batter in prepared pan and sprinkle top with nuts.
  • Bake 25 to 30 minutes, until top is golden and toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  • Cool in pan on wire rack.
  • Cut into squares.
  • Makes 16.
