Ingredients

  • 2 slices bacon or ham, chopped
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 stalk celery, chopped
  • 4 c. water
  • 1 (16 oz.) can navy beans (undrained)
  • 1 (16 oz.) can pinto beans (undrained)
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 c. Minute rice

Method

  • In a large pan, cook and stir meat, onion and celery until tender.
  • Add water, beans, tomato sauce, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
  • Cover; bring to a boil.
  • Stir in rice.
  • Replace cover; remove from heat.
  • Let stand 5 minutes.
  • Makes 8 cups.
