Ingredients

  • 3 to 4 squirrels, dressed
  • flour
  • salt and pepper
  • cooking oil
  • 1 c. vinegar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. paprika
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1/2 c. chopped onion
  • 1 c. tomato juice
  • 1/4 c. chili sauce
  • 1/4 tsp. chili powder
  • 2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp. hot pepper sauce
  • cayenne pepper
  • 2 tsp. garlic powder

Method

  • Cut up the squirrels into serving size pieces.
  • Dredge in salted and peppered flour and brown in cooking oil.
  • Prepare barbecue sauce by combining remaining ingredients in a saucepan and cooking over low heat for 15 minutes.
  • Pour the sauce over the meat, cover and bake at 325° for 45 minutes or until tender. Uncover the pan and broil an additional 15 minutes.
