Ingredients
- shortening, size of an egg, melted
- 4 1/2 c. warm water, warmed not hot, heat kills yeast
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. salt
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 scant Tbsp. yeast (may use 2 envelopes of dry yeast)
- 8 - 10 c. flour
Method
- Melt shortening in a large kettle.
- Add the warm water; add the salt, sugar and yeast.
- Beat in the flour (add extra to knead as needed).
- Turn on floured board and knead eight minutes.
- Recipe makes 15 rolls and two double loaves of bread.
- Bake at 350° oven. May use some for doughboys (fried dough).
