Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. vinegar
  • Milk
  • 6 - 8 apples
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp. nutmeg

Method

  • Using pastry blender cut together 2 1/2 c. flour, shortening and salt.
  • In small bowl mix 2 Tbsp. vinegar with enough milk to make one cup.
  • Add liquid to dry ingredients and mix.
  • Add additional flour until crust is no longer sticky and can be rolled out easily.
  • Peel, core and slice apples.
  • Place in pie plate lined with bottom crust.
  • Sprinkle with flour, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • Dot with butter and cover with top crust.
  • Slit top crust. Bake 10 minutes at 450° then lower heat to 350° for 30 - 35 minutes.
  • Check that apples are soft with fork or knife.
