Ingredients
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 1 c. shortening
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. vinegar
- Milk
- 6 - 8 apples
- 2 Tbsp. flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
Method
- Using pastry blender cut together 2 1/2 c. flour, shortening and salt.
- In small bowl mix 2 Tbsp. vinegar with enough milk to make one cup.
- Add liquid to dry ingredients and mix.
- Add additional flour until crust is no longer sticky and can be rolled out easily.
- Peel, core and slice apples.
- Place in pie plate lined with bottom crust.
- Sprinkle with flour, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Dot with butter and cover with top crust.
- Slit top crust. Bake 10 minutes at 450° then lower heat to 350° for 30 - 35 minutes.
- Check that apples are soft with fork or knife.
