Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. butter (room temperature)
  • 3/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 c. mashed bananas (1 or 2)
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. wheat germ
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 3/4 c. chopped nuts
  • 2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

Method

  • Beat butter, brown sugar and nutmeg together until creamy. Beat in bananas and vanilla.
  • In separate bowl, stir together flour, wheat germ, soda and salt; add to creamed mixture, beating well.
  • By hand, stir in chocolate chips and 1/2 of nuts.
  • Spread mixture in a greased 9 x 13-inch pan.
  • Sprinkle with remaining nuts.
  • Mix granulated sugar and cinnamon; spread over nuts.
  • Bake at 350° for 18 to 20 minutes, or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.
  • Makes about 3 dozen bars.
