Ingredients

  • 1 c. all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 c. granulated sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/4 c. cocoa
  • 1 3/4 c. very hot water

Method

  • Heat oven to 350°.
  • Mix the flour, granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons of cocoa, baking powder and salt in ungreased baking pan (9 x 9-inch).
  • Mix milk, oil and vanilla with fork until smooth.
  • Stir in nuts.
  • Spread mixture evenly in pan.
  • Sprinkle with brown sugar and 1/4 cup of cocoa.
  • Pour hot water over batter.
  • Bake 40 minutes.
  • Let stand 15 minutes.
  • Top is crusty and pudding on bottom is thickened.
