Ingredients

  • 8 c. flour
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 cakes fresh yeast
  • 2 c. lukewarm potato water, divided*
  • 1/4 c. salad oil
  • 4 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 qt. boiling water
  • poppy or sesame seed (optional)

Method

  • Sift together dry ingredients (except seeds and 2 tablespoons sugar) into a large mixing bowl.
  • Soften yeast in 1/3 of the potato water.
  • Add to dry ingredients.
  • Add oil to remaining potato water and stir into flour mixture.
  • Add eggs and stir briskly to form a ball of dough.
