Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 c. hot water
  • 1/3 c. shortening
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • flour

Method

  • Combine yeast, 1/2 cup warm water and 1 teaspoon sugar and let rise until makes 1 cup.
  • In a large bowl, mix 1 cup hot water, shortening, 1/4 cup sugar, salt and flour.
  • Cool to lukewarm.
  • Add yeast mixture and enough flour to make a stiff dough.
  • Let rest 5 minutes.
  • Knead until elastic, about 10 minutes.
  • Put in greased bowl and let rise until double in bulk.
  • Punch down.
  • Make into rolls.
  • Let rise and bake at 350°.
