Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. unsalted butter
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 x Large eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 3/4 c. flour
  • 2 tsp baking pwdr
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 c. grnd walnuts
  • 1/2 c. lowfat milk
  • 3 Tbsp. butter plus 1 tsp.
  • 8 x apples (small) in 8 ths.
  • 1/2 c. light brown sugar

Method

  • 1.
  • For the topping, heat 1 tsp.
  • butter in heavy skillet.
  • Add in apples and saute/fry till caramelized.
  • About 3 min.
  • 2.
  • Combine remaining 3 Tbsp.
  • of butter and brown sugar in a small saucepan and heat till blended.
  • 3.
  • Butter a 10 inch pan and spread brown sugar mix in bottom.
  • Arrange apple splices in pan in concentric circles.
  • Set aside.
  • 4.
  • For cake, preheat oven to 350.
  • Cream butter and sugar till fluffy.
  • Add in Large eggs and beat till light.
  • Add in vanilla.
  • 5.
  • Add in dry ingredients alternately with lowfat milk, mixing to combine.
  • Spread batter proportionately over apples.
  • 6.
  • Bake till cake springs back when touched.
  • About 1 hour.
  • 7.
  • Let stand 10 min and invert onto cake plate.
  • Let cold.
  • Serve slightly hot.
