Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 2 Tbsp. water
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. water
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 6 c. apples, sliced
  • 1 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

Method

  • Sift flour and salt into bowl and cut in shortening.
  • Combine egg and 2 tablespoons water.
  • Mix with flour mixture until moistened.
  • Roll out 1/2 dough and pat in pan.
  • Fill with apples. Combine sugar and cornstarch in pan.
  • Blend in 1 cup water and cook until thickened.
  • Stir constantly.
  • Pour over apples and sprinkle with cinnamon.
  • Place rolled dough over top, sealing edges.
  • Cut slits for steam to escape.
  • Bake at 450° for 10 minutes, then 350° for 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Frost when nearly cool.
