Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c. Flour, all-purpose
  • 2 Tbsp. Sugar
  • 2 x Egg yolk
  • 1/2 c. Lowfat milk
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 c. Shortening
  • 2 x Egg white
  • 9 x Apples, peeled cored and sliced
  • 3/4 c. Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 c. Confectioner's sugar
  • 1 pch Salt
  • 1 Tbsp. Vanilla extract
  • 3 Tbsp. Lowfat milk

Method

  • 1.
  • Preheat oven to 350 .
  • Grease and flour a 9X13 inch pan.
  • 2.
  • In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, 2 Tbsp.
  • of sugar and salt.
  • Cut in the shortening till the mix resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Combine the egg yolks and 1/2 c. of lowfat milk, stir into the flour mix.
  • 3.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll half of the dough out to the size of the prepared pan.
  • Cover the inside of the pan with the dough.
  • Spread dough with a light coating of egg white.
  • Fill with sliced apples and sprinkle sugar and cinnamon on top.
  • Roll out remaining dough and place on top of apples.
  • Brush with a light coating of egg white.
  • 4.
  • Bake for 35 to 40 min in the preheated oven, till crust is golden brown.
  • In a small bowl beat together the confectioner's sugar, salt, vanilla and lowfat milk till smooth.
  • Drizzle over cooled bars, cut into squares.
