Ingredients
- 3 c. chopped, pared raw apples
- 1/2 c. water
- 1 c. brown sugar, packed
- 1 tsp. each: baking powder, cinnamon, soda and salt
- 2 c. sifted flour
- 1/2 tsp. allspice
- 1 c. rolled oats (regular)
- 1/2 c. seedless raisins
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/4 c. melted shortening or cooking oil
Method
- Combine apples, water and 1/2 cup brown sugar.
- Cook until apples are almost tender, about 5 minutes.
- Cool while preparing remaining ingredients.
- Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices.
- Stir in remaining brown sugar, oats, raisins and nuts.
- Add apple mixture, eggs and shortening or oil to dry ingredients; stir just until dry ingredients are moistened.
