Ingredients

  • 3 c. chopped, pared raw apples
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 c. brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp. each: baking powder, cinnamon, soda and salt
  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 1 c. rolled oats (regular)
  • 1/2 c. seedless raisins
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 c. melted shortening or cooking oil

Method

  • Combine apples, water and 1/2 cup brown sugar.
  • Cook until apples are almost tender, about 5 minutes.
  • Cool while preparing remaining ingredients.
  • Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices.
  • Stir in remaining brown sugar, oats, raisins and nuts.
  • Add apple mixture, eggs and shortening or oil to dry ingredients; stir just until dry ingredients are moistened.
