Ingredients
- 6 to 8 large apples
- 1 1/2 to 2 c. water
- 2 c. flour
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 2/3 c. milk
- 3/4 c. sugar, mixed with 1 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 c. butter or margarine
- 1 1/2 c. syrup from apple peels plus 2 Tbsp. sugar
Method
- Pare and core apples, saving skins and core and simmer in water.
- Drain and reserve liquid from syrup.
- Sift dry ingredients together.
- Cut in shortening.
- Add milk; stir only until moistened.
- Roll out to size of tea towel; cut into 6 or 8 squares.
- Put apples on each square of dough.
- Put 1 teaspoon butter, 1 tablespoon sugar and cinnamon mixture in each apple. Pinch dough together over apple.
