Ingredients
- 5 c. flour
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. Crisco
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 2 c. buttermilk
Method
- Sift dry ingredients together; cut in shortening with pastry blender.
- Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water.
- Add alternately with buttermilk to dry ingredients; mix well.
- Roll out 1/4-inch thick on floured board; cut with biscuit cutter.
- Dip on one side in melted butter.
- Fold in half and place on ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake immediately, or keep covered in refrigerator and bake as needed.
- Bake at 400° for 15 minutes.
- Yields 4 dozen.
