Ingredients
- 5 c. all-purpose flour
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/2 c. warm water (105~ to 115~)
- 2 c. buttermilk
Method
- Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt; cut in shortening.
- Dissolve yeast in warm water; stir into buttermilk. Add buttermilk mixture to dry ingredients and stir until moistened.
- Cover and chill.
- When ready to use, roll out dough on lightly floured surface to 1/2 to 3/4-inch thickness.
- Cut out biscuits with 2-inch cutter and place on lightly greased cookie sheet.
- Bake at 400° for 12 minutes.
- Dough will keep several weeks in the refrigerator.
- Yield:
- 4 to 5 dozen (2-inch) biscuits.
