Ingredients
- 2 pkg. dry yeast (4 oz. each)
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 2 c. buttermilk, warmed to 110~
- 5 c. flour
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1/3 c. sugar
- 2 tsp. salt
- 2 c. shortening, butter or margarine
Method
- Add warm water and warmed buttermilk to yeast.
- Blend flour, baking powder, soda, sugar and salt.
- Add shortening, butter or margarine; add to flour mixture.
- Cut into coarse meal, use pastry blender (or 2 knives).
- Stir in buttermilk and yeast.
- Turn onto floured board and knead lightly.
- Roll to 1/2-inch thickness.
- Cut into circles with floured glass or biscuit cutter.
- Place on lightly greased cookie sheet.
- Let rise 1 1/2 hours.
- Bake at 450° for 8 to 10 minutes.
- Brush with melted butter.
