Ingredients
- 5 c. flour
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. vegetable shortening
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 2 c. buttermilk
Method
- Sift dry ingredients together.
- Cut in shortening.
- Dissolve yeast in warm water; mix with buttermilk (room temperature).
- Add mixture to dry ingredients and mix well.
- Roll out 1/4-inch thick.
- Cut with round biscuit cutter or juice glass.
- Dip in melted butter or margarine and let rise 1 hour.
- Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 400° for about 15 minutes or until done.
- Makes 2 to 3 dozen.
