Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. buttermilk

Method

  • Dissolve the yeast in warm water and set aside.
  • Cut shortening into the dry ingredients.
  • Stir in the buttermilk and the water-yeast mixture.
  • Blend thoroughly.
  • Refrigerate or make into biscuits.
  • Let the biscuits rise slightly and bake in a 400° oven until lightly browned.
