Ingredients
- 2 lb. firm apples
- 1 1/4 c. sugar
- 3/4 c. water
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 Tbsp. grated lemon rind
- 1/2 tsp. almond extract
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- pastry for 9-inch pie
- 1/4 c. blanched almonds
Method
- Peel and core apples; slice in 1/8-inch slices.
- Dissolve sugar and water over medium heat.
- Add apples, nutmeg and lemon rind. Cook slowly at 450° for 12 minutes or until golden brown.
- Pour filling into crust.
