Ingredients
- 1 c. lentils
- 3 c. rice (extra long rice)
- 8 c. water
- 2 tsp. butter
- 2 medium onions, sliced
- 1 c. raisins
- 2 1/2 lb. beef or lamb cubes
- 6 Tbsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. turmeric
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 c. water
Method
- Boil lentils in enough salted water until tender, but not soft.
- Drain and set aside.
- Rinse the rice several times in warm water; soak in warm water and set aside.
- Bring a large pot of salty (2 tablespoons) water to a rapid boil.
- Drain the water from the soaked rice; pour the rice in boiling water.
- Boil 8 to 10 minutes.
- Stir occasionally to prevent the grains from sticking together.
- Drain the rice in a colander; rinse cold tap water over rice.
