- 1/2 lb. ground beef
- 1/2 lb. ground pork
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. paprika
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper
- 1/2 c. rice, washed
- 1 egg
- 1 large onion
- 2 Tbsp. fat
- 1 large head cabbage
- 1 small can tomato puree
- 1 clove garlic
Method
- Saute chopped onion in fat.
- Add to meat which has been placed in mixing bowl.
- Add egg, seasoning and washed rice; mix well. Set meat mixture aside while preparing cabbage.
- Slice cabbage into slivers or wedges of approximately 1/2 to 1-inch.
- Remove any pieces of hard vein from cut pieces.
- Place 1/2 of cabbage in large pot.
- Form meat into approximately 8 balls of equal size. Place on top of cabbage in pot and cover with remaining cabbage. Pour tomato puree over cabbage and add water to cover.
- Cook over low heat for at least 1 hour.
