Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 c. vegetable shortening
  • 1 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 c. rolled oats
  • 1 (12 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Grease baking sheets.
  • Combine flour, salt and baking soda; set aside.
  • With electric mixer on high speed, beat shortening, sugars and vanilla until creamy.
  • Add eggs; beat until light and fluffy.
  • Gradually stir in flour mixture and oats.
  • Stir in chocolate chips.
  • Drop dough by well rounded measuring teaspoonfuls onto baking sheets.
  • Bake 8 to 10 minutes until golden.
  • Cool on baking sheet.
  • Makes 7 1/2 dozen. Each contains 68 calories, 1 gram protein, 4 grams fat, 5 mg cholesterol, 8 grams carbohydrates and 36 mg sodium.
