- 1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 c. vegetable shortening
- 1 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 c. granulated sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2 eggs
- 2 c. rolled oats
- 1 (12 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
Method
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- Grease baking sheets.
- Combine flour, salt and baking soda; set aside.
- With electric mixer on high speed, beat shortening, sugars and vanilla until creamy.
- Add eggs; beat until light and fluffy.
- Gradually stir in flour mixture and oats.
- Stir in chocolate chips.
- Drop dough by well rounded measuring teaspoonfuls onto baking sheets.
- Bake 8 to 10 minutes until golden.
- Cool on baking sheet.
- Makes 7 1/2 dozen. Each contains 68 calories, 1 gram protein, 4 grams fat, 5 mg cholesterol, 8 grams carbohydrates and 36 mg sodium.
